About The LawsonGuru...

Part of my goal—as your self-appointed ombudsman in the Lawson Software community—is to increase each and every client’s return on their Lawson investment, by providing them with provocative commentary and timely information that improves their use of Lawson’s ERP software. This is why I started The LawsonGuru Letter back in 2002.

The LawsonGuru Letter newsletter is distributed—free of charge—on a monthly basis, covering a broad spectrum of topics that are relevant to the Lawson Software community.  In addition, The LawsonGuru Letter also provides a forum for guest contributors that include consultants and of course, Lawson’s customers.

I wanted to fill what I felt was a void in the Lawson community. There were user groups, Lawson had its support site, and there was, of course, CUE.

However, what I felt was missing was a source of information that was comprehensive and completely unbiased. While the newsletter has been very successful, I realized I had to take it a step further.

The result, of course, is LawsonGuru.com.

Here are some highlights:

  • A Lawson-centric home page, containing announcements, a LWSN stock quote, a Lawson-related newsfeed, as well as an occasional survey question, and my current “worthwhile reading” article list.
  • The LawsonGuru.com Forums where you can post and respond to Lawson-related questions and issues.  Similar to the topica mailing lists, but without the embedded advertisements and those oh-so-annoying “out-of-office” message storms.
  • Lawson ERDs:  Lawson doesn’t publish any. Therefore, you can certainly appreciate that some of the biggest attractions on the LawsonGuru.com site are my celebrated Lawson ERDs and hyperlinked data dictionary.
  • Tips & Tricks: A repository of my favorite Tips & Tricks from amongst those published (and some unpublished) in The LawsonGuru Letter.

So, enjoy the site.  Tell your friends and colleagues about it.

Lawson Software Introduces Infor10 Lawson S3

Lawson Software Introduces Infor10 Lawson S3. Filed under: Infor, Infor Acquisition, Lawson, LWSN, Upgrades

Farewell, Dean

By now, you’ve probably heard the news that Dean Hager is leaving Lawson (see Key Executives Leave Lawson Software After Infor Acquisition). I don’t know Larry Dunivan or Nancy Anderson, but as for Dean, I will certainly miss him. For several years, Dean has been the public face of Lawson, and garnered the trust of [...]

Why I’m Bullish on Lawson/Infor

Six months ago, I told you to stay tuned. I admit it. I had my doubts. Frankly, I was planning a new venture, and was ready to close the door on the LawsonGuru blog, LawsonGuru Letter, and LawsonGuru.com. So what changed my mind? Scrooge No More I know it’s cheesy. It’s my favorite Christmas movie. [...]

Not So “New and Improved”

Is this indicative of your experience with Lawson’s “new & improved” knowledge base? Apparently you’re not alone.  I have heard from a number of clients, who range anywhere from disappointed to livid with Lawson’s “new and improved” knowledge base.  As one client pointed out, “Any knowledgebase that takes a one hour webinar to understand probably [...]

The Future Is Now

Lawson as we’ve known it is no more.As for now, it appears that Lawson will operate as a mostly standalone operation, with some cross-selling and high-level integration efforts over the coming months, as outlined in this release: Infor and Golden Gate Capital Complete Acquisition of Lawson Software. What, if anything, does your organization plan to [...]

On Infor and the Future of Lawson

Clients have been asking: “Infor is acquiring Lawson, where do we go from here?” Remember that Infor has historically been an acquisition-based software provider, and hasn’t offered a complete integration between their acquired product sets, resulting in some overlap between their products. Infor’s prior acquisitions have included some industry heavyweights, such as Baan (ERP/SCM/Logistics) and [...]

Update on Alleged Patent Infringement

Several clients have asked for advice on a recent injunction against Lawson related to patent infringements alleged by ePlus. According to ePlus, their patents “involve electronic procurement, and the inventions allow end-users to perform a wide variety of functions, including, but not limited to: perform electronic searches, selections and comparisons as well as review items [...]

A Bittersweet Ending

Well folks, it’s a deal: Lawson has agreed to Infor’s buyout offer. After decades of work by countless employees, numerous makeovers and new releases, the bursting of the dot-com bubble, several CEOs, and an IPO to boot, Lawson has agreed to itself be acquired. Some may say they’re throwing in the towel and giving in [...]
